Abstract
The trials of interlaboratory quality assessment in blood banking were carried out in 1991 and the response rate of first trial was 72.5% and second was 84.2%.
Test items wee ABO cell and serum groupings, Rho(D) typing, cross matching, direct antiglobulin test, antibody screening and identification test.
The results were as follows:
1. The accuracy rates of ABO cell grouping for B, A and Ol types were all 100%.
2. The accuracy rates of ABO serum grouping were in the range of 99.4% and most of incorrect answers were AB, answered as O type.
3. The accuracy rates of Rho(D) typing were in the range of 97.2% to 100%.
4. 93.4% and 99.5% of participants detected correctly the ABO incompatibilities, but detection rates of Rh incompatibilities, were 61.1% and 86%.
5. The response rates for direct antiglobulin test were about 78% and correct answers were almost 100% in negative cases and 92.9% to 97.4% in positive cases.
6. The response rates for antibody screenings were still low in about 40% and accuracy rates were less than 90% and there were no difference in detection rates between anti-E and anti-D. Over 80% of the test cells used for antibody screening
were
made
in each institute on the basis of various pooling.
7. The response rates of antibody identification were only 6.1% and 7.5% and correct answers were 90.9% and 100%. Highest usage of reagent red cells for antibody identification was Dade made.
8. The practical workshop was held once in the Taejon Red Cross Blood Center and all were first attendants and medical technologists despatched from smaller hospital blood banks throughout the Republic of Korea.
